There’s something about baseball, right? It’s the culmination of fresh-cut grass, red dirt on weirdly-fashioned bright white pants, the sun a little-too-hot on the pitcher’s mound. It’s Spring, and it’s baseball season.
My dad coached my little league softball team when I was small enough to have my dad coach but big enough to be embarrassed by the way I looked in my team photo. We were the Mariner’s. Elite losers. There to participate.
My most vivid memories include trying to find all the parts to my uniform before rushing out of the house and standing in the outfield, where no ball ever dared be hit, and digging sunflower seeds out of my back pocket to pass the time.
I didn’t last long.
When my daughter took up tee-ball, I sat at her first “game” and remembered how my dad cursed an ump up and down and had to sit in the car until the game ended. Was I embarrassed? No. My only thought was about my inability to catch a ball as the literal catcher. As I watched on, my daughter stood, bored, on first base. And I, bored, waited for the next time I would have to yell to her coach, some dad on the team, that she batted better as a leftie.
I’m the epitome of a baseball mom. What can I say?
So, baseball isn’t exactly our thing. But it is sure-as-hell part of my great American story. I can’t imagine how many little rascals there are out there.
To celebrate the onset of Spring and the first pitch, we recommend Home Team Slushee Bead Slime. With a color like infield dirt and the smell of Cracker Jacks, this slime will have you singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” It even comes with a sprinkle pack that says “land of the free and home of the brave.” It’s a home run for us.
Go out there and play ball!
