Marquis Mills Converse founded the Converse Rubber Shoe Company in 1908. In 1917, the company designed the forerunner of the modern All-Star shoe for basketball players. In 1921, Charles “Chuck” Taylor, an American semi-professional basketball player joined Converse as a salesman. Because he was so successful in promoting Converse All-Stars, as well as making important changes in the design of the All-Star shoe, in 1932, his name “Chuck Taylor” was added to the ankle patch. The “Chuck Taylor” All-Star basketball shoe was born!
Converse All-Star shoes were the first celebrity-endorsed athletic shoe when in 1932, Chuck Taylor’s signature appeared on the All-Star logo circular patch.
In the 1950s, Chuck Taylor All-Stars had become the standard among high school, collegiate and professional basketball players and by the 1960s Converse captured 70 to 80% of the basketball shoe market. Starting in the 1970s, athletic shoes became so popular as footwear that adults refused to give up wearing them.
Converse manufactures Chucks in hundreds of different variations that included prints, patterns, unusual colors, and special models for different age groups.
If you are a baby-boomer, a rock musician, or in the younger generation we hope that you will jump into this thick crunchy slime, that you can top with a fun citrus sprinkle pack, and get a kick out of our “Chucks” keychain.
