Do you want a hippopotamus for Christmas? I do! This DIY slime is inspired by the Christmas novelty song, I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.”

John Rox wrote the Christmas novelty song and 10-year-old Gayla Peevey sang it in 1953. The song peaked at number 24 on Billboard magazine’s pop chart in December.

Peevey lived in Oklahoma, and a local promoter started a successful campaign to get Gayla an actual hippopotamus for Christmas.  The hippopotamus, named Mathilda, was donated to the Oklahoma City Zoo and lived for nearly 50 years.

Santa may not put a hippopotamus under your Christmas tree, but you can still delight in the fun of receiving a hippopotamus with this DIY slay slime.  The adorable purple hippo mixes into the pigmented jelly base to create a silky slay slime.
