Biodegradable and Non-Toxic Ingredient for Slime Enthusiasts

Welcome Neighbors and slime enthusiasts! At Retro Slime Company, we're not just passionate about creating fun and nostalgic slime experiences; we're also dedicated to being environmentally responsible. That's why we've chosen to use Elmer's Glue in our slime products, and today, we're excited to share with you the reasons behind this choice. (No, this is not a sponsored blog) We'll also introduce you to an eco-friendly activator made with borax. So, let's dive into the world of biodegradable, non-toxic slime fun! Elmer's Glue: The Eco-Friendly Choice We all remember Elmer's Glue from our childhoods, but what you may not know is that it's an excellent choice for sustainable slime making. Here's why:
  1. Biodegradable: Elmer's Glue is made from a synthetic polymer known as polyvinyl acetate (PVA), which is derived from petroleum. This may sound like a strike against its environmental credentials, but fear not! PVA is actually biodegradable, breaking down into water and carbon dioxide over time. This means that, once you're done with your Retro Slime fun, you can rest easy knowing that it will naturally decompose without harming the environment.
  2. Non-toxic: Safety is our top priority, and Elmer's Glue is a clear winner in this category. It's non-toxic, making it safe for you and your family to enjoy hours of slime-filled fun. Plus, it's easy to clean up, so you don't have to worry about damaging surfaces or leaving a mess behind.

Check out Thinking Sustainably's blog  Borax-Based Activator: The Green Slime Solution Now that we've covered why Elmer's Glue is a great eco-friendly base for our Retro Slime, let's talk about the activator. An activator is a key component in the slime-making process, as it turns the glue mixture into the stretchy, gooey substance we all know and love. We've chosen to use a borax-based activator for our slime recipes. Borax, also known as sodium borate, is a naturally occurring mineral that has been used for various cleaning and household purposes for over a century. It's non-toxic and readily available, making it a perfect choice for our environmentally-conscious slime fans. The Material Safety Data Sheet lists borax as a health hazard of 1—the same as baking soda and salt. In other words, borax is toxic in the same way that salt is toxic (Actually ounce for ounce, salt is more toxic): A small amount can do great things; a huge amount will kill you and other living things. You wouldn’t want to ingest large amounts of salt or baking soda, inhale them, or rub them in your eyes. Borax is no different. Want to know more about borax? Check out our What is Borax blog. At Retro Slime Company, we're committed to providing you with the most enjoyable and environmentally responsible slime experience possible. By choosing Elmer's Glue as our slime base and using a borax-based activator, we're doing our part to minimize our impact on the planet. So, go ahead and indulge in the nostalgia of Retro Slime, knowing that you're making a responsible, eco-friendly choice. Happy sliming!
