Anything Can Happen on Black Friday

I can’t tell if the day my brother was born was the worst day of my mother’s life or the best. Her water broke at Nordstrom’s semi-annual sale, and she didn’t even notice. Nothing could stop my mom from a good sale. She used to hide her shopping bags in the trunk of her car until my dad went to sleep.

The term Black Friday doesn’t exactly sound like a good thing. Some say the term came about from retail workers calling in sick the day after Thanksgiving. Some say we can thank the Philadelphia Police Department for popularizing the term in reference to traffic in the city on the best shopping day of the year. Others say that retailers operated in the red most of the year until the Christmas shopping season finally put them in the black.

In fact, in the 1930s, President Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday in November to help lengthen the Christmas shopping season. When Congress agreed, the deal was done. People referred to the new date as “Franksgiving” in an act of protest.

However, it came about, my mom is happy to wake up before the sun comes out and venture into the night for that one-of-a-kind deal. It’s our pleasure to join in the fun and offer you a discount on your holiday slime too!

Happy shopping!

What deals did she get before your brother’s birth? What a way to come into the world. I enjoy Black Friday shopping too.

My husband and I have both worked in retail and Black Friday can be very black indeed. 🤪. On the flip side, I love a good sale!
