RETRO Retrospect
Vinny Cavallo created waxed bottles of candy in the early 20th century. The fruit-flavored liquid-filled candy wax bottles are called Nik-L-Nip, “Nik” for the nickel price, and the “Nip” for nipping off the top to get to access the sweet liquid. Once emptied, the wax bottles were often chewed like gum although the wax should not be swallowed. They have not changed the product from the 1940s version. During the 1980s Nik-L-Nip filled became popular again along with giant wax lips and vampire fangs.
