Product Description
Insert Coin is a bright yellow white-glue thick slime packed with floam beads for a poppy, crunchy texture inspired by Saturday nights spent feeding quarters into arcade machines. The thick white-glue base is glossy, holdable, and loaded with floam for plenty of pops and crackles with every squeeze. But the game isn’t over yet. Insert Coin also comes with two oversized retro arcade-inspired clay pieces, one bright yellow and one pink. Place them on top, enjoy the setup, then mix both pieces into the floam base. The added clay transforms the texture into an even thicker, softer, and more substantial slime while keeping plenty of those satisfying floam pops.
And what would an arcade night be without something cold and sugary from the snack counter? Insert Coin is scented in Cherry Slushie, a strong sweet-and-tangy cherry fragrance. It opens with cherry, sweet orange, and lemon, moves into cherry slushie, raspberry, and red currant, and finishes with vanilla sugar and white musk.
Bright lights. Cherry slushies. A pocket full of quarters.
RETRO Retrospect
Before games lived in our pockets, some of the best ones required a pocket full of quarters.
The roots of the video arcade took hold in the early 1970s. The Smithsonian traces an important milestone to 1971, when Computer Space became an early commercial coin-operated video game. The following year brought Pong, whose first test machine became so popular that its coin box reportedly filled with quarters until the machine stopped working.
Then came the arcade boom.
The late 1970s through the mid-1980s became what The Strong National Museum of Play describes as the golden age of arcade games. Arcades were dark, noisy, colorful places filled with rows of glowing cabinets, joysticks, buttons, black lights, wild carpeting, and the unmistakable sound of games competing for your attention.
By 1982, The Strong reports that more than 20,000 arcades were in business. For a generation of kids and teenagers, the arcade had become a destination.
You brought your quarters. You watched someone else’s game while you waited your turn. You tried to beat the high score. Maybe you grabbed a soda or frozen drink before heading back to the machines.
